Mixed experience at Gaylord Pacific — not quite worth the price (so far) We are currently staying at the Gaylord Pacific for 4th of July weekend with two kids. Overall, it has been a very mixed (and mostly mediocre) experience, especially considering we are paying over $900/night for a balcony room with two queen beds. Room: 3/5 Rooms are clean and slightly spacious, with a big TV as the main standout. Beds, pillows, and sheets are nice. However, there was no shampoo in the shower (only two bottles of shower gel and conditioner), and they forgot to hang two pictures, which are just propped against the wall. Not exactly what you would expect at this price point. Dining: 3.5/5 overall The restaurants are hit or miss. Prices are about double what you would pay elsewhere, but you are basically stuck here. Treo breakfast buffet: Pretty good value at $42/adult, $24/child. Lots of sweets and pastries for kids. 4/5. Treo lunch/dinner: Smaller portions despite high price at $30-$42. The kids menu was okay. 3/5. Old Hickory Steakhouse: Surprisingly good: kids’ mac and cheese, kids’ filet, house rolls, and duck fat fingerlings were great. The grilled maitake mushroom was just okay, and the $39 seafood chowder was tiny and underwhelming with the table pour. 4/5. PCH Market: Outrageous prices — $7–$8 for coffee, $10 for an average chocolate chip cookie, $6 protein bars, $15 cinnamon rolls, and worst of all, $1 for a small cup of tap water (I really don’t understand this one since it is free at the bar). 2/5. Pool restaurants: 1–3/5 Shallow End Grill: Easily the worst experience. You order at a kiosk or at the bar, then wait anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour. They forgot my order entirely after a 30-minute wait with barely any line. Another guest said they got a cheeseburger without the patty. No mobile ordering or pagers — extremely disorganized. They need to fix this fast as this will be the main reason for most of the negative reviews here besides the prices. So many guests were furious and angry with this place. 1/5. Sunny’s: Menu isn’t kid-friendly, and they ran out of menus so you have to line up or wait 20-30 minutes for a server to help you. Food is okay but not super memorable. 3/5. Pools: 5/5 The highlight of the resort. The waterslides, lazy river, and wave pool were all hits with the kids. Pools aren’t heated, but there are plenty of hot tubs. No need for the $600+ cabanas since there are lots of chairs. They need more lifejackets for the wave pool. Fitness center: 5/5 Best hotel gym I have ever seen, with fantastic equipment. However, no staff monitoring at all. I saw young kids using treadmills unsupervised, one of whom fell badly. They should enforce an age limit for safety. Also, would be nice to switch from plastic to paper cups (more cost effective too). They sometimes run out of water at the cooler, so have to bring your own. Nice cool spa towels in the fridge. Arcade: 2/5 Fun at first, especially the racing games and pu
